Library scope

Cable Library is the final subtab in Advanced Calculations. It controls cable choices for the current project without changing the centrally maintained standard library.

Standard-library records are shared across the application and are read-only. Project custom cables and inclusion settings are stored only in the current project, including its exported backup data.

Included and excluded ratings

Every active standard and project custom rating is included by default. Select Included against a row to exclude that rating from new Cable & Protection selections. Select Excluded to include it again.

Use Include all to clear every project exclusion. Search and the Source, Application and Availability filters can be combined to find a particular rating.

• Inclusion is stored at individual rating level, not for an entire cable family.
• Excluded ratings do not appear as new dropdown choices.
• An existing circuit continues to show and calculate from its saved cable snapshot.
• Including a rating does not confirm that it is suitable for the installation.

Adding a project cable

Select Add project cable to expand the editor. The same header button closes the editor when it is open. Complete the required name, conductor size, current capacity and voltage-drop value before saving.

Application determines whether the cable is offered for single-phase or three-phase circuits. Core configuration, cable arrangement and installation method provide the context required to interpret the numerical data.

1. Select Add project cable.
2. Enter a clear cable name and choose its application.
3. Enter conductor size, current capacity and voltage drop in mV/A/m.
4. Record the core configuration, arrangement and reference installation method.
5. Add manufacturer, standard and source details where available.
6. Select Save project cable.

Project library versus one-off custom data

Create a project cable when the same custom rating will be selected on multiple circuits. It appears in a separate Project cable library group in the Cable & Protection dropdown.

Use Custom cable data directly in Cable & Protection for a one-off circuit that does not need a reusable library record. Both methods remain limited to the current project.

Editing and removing project cables

Project custom records can be edited or removed from the table. Standard-library records remain read-only.

Editing a project cable changes the choice offered for future selections but does not silently rewrite cable snapshots already saved against circuits. Select the revised cable again on a circuit where the new values should apply.

If a project cable is removed while in use, the existing circuit retains and displays its saved snapshot. The removed record is no longer offered for new selections.

Standards and suitability

The standard library contains sourced reference data; it is not a list of cables approved by BS 7909. Cable suitability depends on the complete design, applicable cable and installation standards, environmental conditions, mechanical protection and competent judgement.

The designer remains responsible for checking capacity, voltage-drop data, correction factors and intended use before completing designer verification in Cable & Protection.
